East Yorkshire Mobility Scooter Provision

The following sites have mobility scooters for hire… it is ALWAYS wise to enquire in advance to ensure one is available:

Bempton Cliffs RSPB

Each year nearly half a million of them flock to the cliffs between Bempton and Flamborough, many to find a mate and raise their young. From April to August the cliffs are alive with nest-building adults or young chicks taking their first faltering steps. Between mid-April and mid-July the much-loved puffin makes its home there. From February to October thousands of gannets nest on the cliffs of the only mainland gannetry in England. Bempton also has the largest kittiwake colony in mainland Britain. You can get close to the action from six safe cliff-edge viewing platforms. Inside the seabird centre there’s an exciting exhibition area, large TV screens showing live images from the cliffs, and a well-stocked shop, which boasts the best selection of binoculars and scopes on the East Coast. Three out of six cliff edge viewpoints are fully accessible via a hard surfaced path. They also have wheelchair bays and higher handrails that don’t restrict the view. A fourth viewpoint has ramped entry and a wheelchair bay but is accessed via a grassy cliff top path. The site has one Tramper mobility scooter and one standard mobility scooter for disabled visitors to use. It is advisable to book in advance by phoning the centre on 01262 422212. While there is no official charge for this, a donation towards the maintenance of the scooters would be very much appreciated. There are also two push wheelchairs that can be used, should anyone prefer these to using a mobility scooter. There are seven disabled parking bays and a finely crushed stone footpath turns to hard surfaced path direct towards the Seabird Centre.
